What is drag clicking?

Drag clicking means sliding a fingertip across the mouse button with light pressure. The friction makes the finger skip along the surface and press the button many times very quickly. On a mouse that suits it, one drag can produce a burst of 20 or more clicks in a second, which is why drag clicking is the fastest technique there is. It only lasts for the length of a drag, so it comes in bursts rather than a steady stream.

Why the short timers

A drag lasts about a second, so the 1 and 3-second tests show what one or two drags give you. The peak score, the most clicks inside any one second, is the number drag clickers usually quote. Longer tests are there to see how quickly you can chain drags.

What makes drag clicking work

  • Grip on the button surface. A slightly rough or textured button lets the finger skip; a very smooth one lets it slide without clicking.
  • A dry fingertip. Sweat changes the friction. Some players wipe the button first.
  • Mouse debounce. Mice that filter fast repeats heavily will register fewer of the bounces.

Drag clicking is hard on the fingertip and on the mouse switch. Many game servers also cap how many clicks per second they accept, so check the rules where you play.

Drag Click Test: questions

How many CPS can you get with drag clicking?

Short bursts of 20 or more clicks per second are possible on a mouse that suits it, but it only lasts as long as the drag.

Why can I not drag click on my mouse?

Drag clicking needs some friction on the button and a mouse that does not filter fast repeated clicks too heavily. Smooth buttons and long debounce times make it much harder.

Which timer should I use for drag clicking?

The 1 or 3-second test. A single drag lasts about a second, and the peak score shows the burst.
