Why five seconds

Five seconds is long enough that one lucky click barely moves the result (each click is worth 0.2 CPS) and short enough that most people can keep their top speed the whole way. That makes it the most common length for a quick CPS check, and it is the default on our main CPS test.

The result shows your average CPS, your clicks per minute (CPS × 60), the total clicks, and your peak 1 s: the most clicks that landed inside any one-second window. The bar chart has one bar per second. If the last bar is clearly shorter than the first, you are starting to tire even at five seconds.

What is a good 5-second score?

As rough guidance, most people clicking normally with one finger land somewhere around 5 to 8 CPS. Jitter clicking usually reaches about 9 to 13 CPS, and butterfly clicking can go higher on a mouse that registers it. These are typical ranges, not records. Your own trend matters more: your best 5-second score for this length is saved in this browser, and the recent runs list shows the last 20.

Tips

  1. Warm up with two or three runs. The first try of the day is almost always the slowest.
  2. Hold the rhythm, do not sprint. An even pace for five seconds beats a fast start that fades.
  3. Keep the mouse still. Pressing hard enough to move the mouse wastes effort; let the finger do the work.

5 Second CPS Test: questions

How many clicks in 5 seconds is good?

Around 25 to 40 clicks (5 to 8 CPS) is a common range for normal clicking. 50 clicks is 10 CPS, which is usually jitter or butterfly territory.

How is the 5-second CPS calculated?

Total clicks divided by 5. The timer starts on your first click, which counts. 42 clicks is 8.40 CPS.

What is the peak 1 s number?

The most clicks that landed inside any one-second window during your run. It is usually a little higher than your average.
